Funkelhaus.de

Migrated and rebuilt major German lighting supplier's site to Magento 2 headless architecture with Next.js, dramatically improving speed and usability.

Client

Opti-Wohnwelt, a prominent German furniture retailer, has a rich legacy and a strong presence in the market. With over 1,100 employees and 17 retail furniture stores in Germany, the brand has achieved annual sales exceeding €140 million.

In 2022, Opti-Wohnwelt asked us to relaunch their online store, Funkelhaus.de, which specializes in offering innovative lighting products and solutions.

Challenges

The primary objective of the project was to enhance website performance and user experience. The existing website, built on a traditional Magento frontend, presented significant performance challenges. Addressing these issues was crucial to achieving the desired results. Additionally, streamlining product management through integration with their ERP solution posed a notable challenge.

Solution

We kicked off the project with a visit to Opti's offices in Schweinfurt, Germany, for a discovery workshop.

In the following days, we defined the project's goals and all the functionalities that required further customization based on the collected UX data.

For this particular project, we opted for Next.js as our front-end framework. Unifying all storefronts within the same ecosystem seemed like the most logical choice, so we decided to stick with it.

After thorough analysis of the UX data, we commenced work on the design phase.

Simultaneously, the development team seized the opportunity to leverage the latest available version of Next.js for project development.

We were able to improve the performance drastically by utilising the Incremental Static Regeneration (ISR) strategy, wich allows us to have a static HTML version of the pages while keeping parts of the page like pricing and stock information dynamic, so they are up to date.

Results

We are currently collaborating with the team at Funkelhaus.de to expand the project by adding new features and improving the existing ones. This allows us to promptly adapt features from other projects, reuse them as needed, and still maintain the unique design.
